Washington Elderly Handicapped Transportation Service (WEHTS)
WEHTS, Washington Elderly Handicapped Transportation Service is a unique curb to curb transportation service for seniors aged 60 or older who reside in the District of Columbia. WEHTS provides transportation for medical appointments, group shopping trips and personal errands related to income benefits, housing and medical concerns among others. Hours of operation for WEHTS ARE: Monday – Friday 6:30am – 6:00pm.
WEHTS also provides a “Call & Ride Program” which is a taxi service that provides taxi vouchers to seniors at deep discounts. Seniors are able to utilize these vouchers to the designation of their choice.

What if I cannot come out to the curb due and ride along due to limited mobility or dementia related illness?
You may have an escort with you. Your escort should be at least 18 years or older.
Do I need an escort if I am in a wheelchair?
Escorts are not required for wheelchair bound participants who are independent. However, all wheelchairs should be equipped and mechanically safe. Additionally, all wheelchairs must have standard features.
How far in advance should I make my appointment?
All appointments must be scheduled at least 96 hours or 4 days in advance. You should also be ready at least one hour before your scheduled appointment.
Where and who should I call to make my appointment or for taxi vouchers?
You should call your lead agency in your ward to schedule your appointments. Agencies are listed below by wards.
Is there a fee for this service?
Medicaid is excepted for full payment for this service. However, for non-medicaid customers, there is no fee for this service. However, contributions are accepted through the lead agencies that are listed below.
